GradeProof in 4 easy steps

Get started with GradeProof in these 4 simple steps.

1. Create a Free Account

If you haven't already registered for a free GradeProof account, get started here.

2. Import Your Document

The next step is get your writing into GradeProof. There are currently 4 options for importing documents:

Upload image

  • Copy/paste text into a new blank document
  • Upload from your computer
  • Import from Dropbox
  • Use the Google Docs add-in for all your Google Docs
  • Use the Microsoft Word add-in for all your Microsoft Word documents

3. Correct Your Writing

Once your document is imported, you should see the GradeProof Editor together with all the colorful suggestions ready to improve your writing. The GradeProof Editor consists of the following elements:

  1. Your document together with all the available GradeProof suggestions.
  2. The title of your document can be changed.
  3. Each suggestion gives you a brief explanation followed by a list of available replacements. You can also choose to ignore the suggestion or add it to your dictionary.
  4. A language drop-down menu to choose the version of English you would like to use.
  5. The 9 types of suggestions available in GradeProof. You can turn each category on/off here or click the numbers to jump to the next available suggestion of that type.
    • The Essential features find and fix fundamental writing errors.
      • The Spelling Engine searches for words that are not in the currently selected English dictionary.
      • The essential Grammar Engine looks for grammatically incorrect phrases.
    • The Advanced Grammar Engine uses Artificial Intelligence and statistics to find complicated grammatical issues.
      • The Word Confusion Engine looks for errors of commonly confused words, including homophones and oronyms.
      • The Punctuation Engine looks for issues around punctuation, including appropriate spacing and choice of punctuation.
      • The Capitalization Engine looks for cases when words are not capitalized, but should be.
      • The Repetition Engine looks for words or phrases that have been unnecessarily repeated.
    • The Eloquence Engine is a unique and powerful feature using advanced Artificial Intelligence to improve the eloquence of your writing style. The suggested changes include both stylistic and structural modifications.
      • The Phrasing Engine searches for ways to improve the flow and eloquence of your writing style.
      • The Efficiency Engine looks for wordy language that can be more concisely expressed.
  6. Set the goal for the stylistic corrections to increase or decrease your word count using our targeted rephrasing technology. 
    • The Expansion Engine finds ways to make your text longer.
    • The Improvement Engine will focus on improving your document with no specific text length in mind.
    • The Contraction Engine finds ways to make your text shorter.
  7. Whenever you interact with a suggestion, the editor will automatically jump to the next suggestion for you. If you do not want this behavior, turn 'Auto Advance' off which can be accessed by clicking the small settings cog.
  8. Use the Plagiarism button to check the originality of the document (see the next section).
  9. Useful statistics on your document and writing style.
  10. Clicking the tick in the top right shows you a list of all the changes you applied to the document as well as options to download the final text.

Handy Tip: Clicking on the suggestion numbers in the side menu will jump the editor to the next available suggestion of that type.

4. Check for Plagiarism

Available as a Pro feature, you can use plagiarism checking to ensure originality of your work by scanning for similarities with any previously published content. Simply hit the 'Plagiarism' button and follow the steps to run a check. Please be aware that doing this will use one of your monthly plagiarism-check quota.
